Reference and Collection databases This program was started as a catalogue for my personal use ("e-SL Db”) but has grown into a tool that I think is useful to other Collectors, Curators and people interested in the Earth Sciences. It contains 6 Main Reference databases and in excess of 27 Minor-databases. The Main databases are:- The data in these is then accessed to help with cataloguing of specimens through the use of pull down tables, and the data is stored in the ‘Specimen Listing e-SL Db’. External access to all data in e-SL and other Databases for Publications and Localities is available, via Excel spreadsheets, in the ‘Table of Specimens’ folder. Full access to all fields in all Dbs is available through the various forms accessed via the Menu buttons. Therefore if updated or extra data becomes available, this can be entered into the appropriate Db fields. To access the main Dbs or to retrieve data again, use the Menu buttons. Data can be searched for in multiple ways. For example, search can be by name, element or multiple elements, as well as other criteria. Data is viewable and printable in both Landscape and Portrait views. The Mineral database e-ML© is a collection of scientific and general descriptions, for in excess of 4500 minerals, each with up to 99 individual fields, these can be searched in either single or multiple ways, including the use of ‘wild-cards’. Fields Include:- Species name, group, varieties, habit, occurrence, locality, formula, colour, streak, lustre, refractive index, density, hardness, fracture, tenacity, cleavage, twinning, crystal system, Dana, Strunz, JCPDS, IMA, Hays and publication references, etc. etc. (note. not all fields will have data in them as it is not available). The Gemstone database e-GL© is a collection of scientific and general descriptions, for in excess of 800 gemstones, each with extensive individual fields, these can be searched in either single or multiple ways, including the use of ‘wild cards’. The Rock database e-RL© is a collection of scientific and general descriptions, for in excess of 390 rocks, each with extensive individual fields, these can be searched in either single or multiple ways. Including the use of ‘wild cards’. The Elements database e-EL© is a collection of scientific and general descriptions, for the elements, each with extensive individual fields, these can be searched in either single or multiple ways, including the use of ‘wild cards’. The Publication database e-PL© is a collection of information on major earth science publications, these can be searched in either single or multiple ways, including the use of ‘wild cards’. (This can also be used as an address book). The Collection database e-SL© is the collection cataloguing program using the above reference databases. With this program you catalogue your collection, using pull down menus for inserting mineral, gemstone, rock and location data. Once catalogued these can be searched in either single or multiple ways, including the use of ‘wild cards’. The collection data is fully open and is located in an Excel™ spread sheet.
